Today, on the 10th Anniversary of his Succession to the dynastic dignities of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies, which coincides with the Jubilee Year of the “Hope that does not disappoint”, we celebrate the 57th birthday of HRH our Grand Master: Prince Pedro of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, by the Grace of God and Hereditary Right Duke of Calabria, Count of Caserta, Head of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies, Grand Master of the Royal and Illustrious Order of Saint Januarius, the Royal Order of Saint Ferdinand and of Merit, and the Royal Military Order of Saint George of the Reunion, and, as a separate dignity, Grand Master of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George.
He was born on 16 October 1968 in Madrid—receiving the title of Duke of Noto, as heir to his father, the Head of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies—son of Their Royal Highnesses the Infante of Spain, Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria and Princess Anne of France, Duchess of Calabria.
After the death of his father on 5 October 2015, he assumed the Headship of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies, together with the dignities properly belonging to him: the Grand Mastership of the Illustrious and Royal Order of Saint Januarius—the Order of the Royal House—and the Grand Mastership of the other dynastic orders of the ancient Crown of the Two Sicilies: the Royal Order of Saint Ferdinand and of Merit, the Royal and Military Order of Saint George of the Reunion, and the Royal Order of Francis I. Furthermore, as the first-born heir of the House of Farnese and by virtue of successive Papal Bulls, he also assumed the separate dignity of Grand Master of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George.
A graduate in Forest Engineering, he combines the overall management of the La Toledana estate and the company Gesytec Ingenieros—which offers a wide range of specialized services to optimize and modernize agricultural, livestock, forestry, and hunting activities—with his dynastic duties as Head of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies, his separate duties as Grand Master of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, and, since 2014 by appointment of H.M. King Juan Carlos I of Spain, his duties as President of the Royal Council of the Four Spanish Military Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, and Montesa, the oldest of the governing councils of the Spanish monarchy, succeeding his father in that office.
After observing the month of mourning prescribed by the laws and customs of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies upon the death of his father, HRH Infante Carlos of Spain, Prince of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, on 5 November 2015, Prince Pedro, in accordance with the hereditary laws of his House and of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, as the eldest son of the late Prince and his immediate successor in all his rights, publicly and solemnly proclaimed that he had succeeded to and been invested with all the titles, offices, and rights belonging to him as Head of the Royal House and Family of the Two Sicilies and as the first-born heir of the House of Farnese.
Under the Grand Mastership of Prince Pedro, the equestrian and religious nature of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George and its aims have been clearly reaffirmed: the Glorification of the Cross, the Propagation of the Faith, and the Defense of the Holy Roman Church, to which the Order is closely bound through special merits and through many proofs of gratitude and benevolence received from the Supreme Pontiffs.
As the Statutes declare, it is not only the foremost duty of the knights and dames of the Constantinian Order to live as perfect Christians, but it is also proper for them to take part in all those activities that contribute to the advancement of religious principles and to cooperate by every means so that Christian life may be revived in practice. The Constantinian Order, in order to strengthen further its centuries-old equestrian-religious institutions and to reconcile them with the needs of the times—which, through their evolution, have transformed the whole structure of contemporary society—is devoted to promoting spiritual, cultural, humanitarian, and social-charitable initiatives in accordance with Christian principles.
HRH Prince Pedro has known how to place his historic dignities and offices at the service of the community. Through his selfless, constant, and tireless dedication in leading the Constantinian Order, he stands as a shining example for the knights and dames of the Constantinian Order—showing how tradition can continue to sustain the future and support those who are less fortunate and in difficulty, with the “Hope that does not disappoint.”
HRH Prince Pedro is married to HRH Princess Sophía (born Sofía Landaluce y Melgarejo), Princess of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duchess of Calabria (born 23 November 1973), daughter of José Manuel Landaluce y Domínguez (b. 1944) and María de las Nieves Blanca Melgarejo y González (1946 – 6 January 2009).
