The Grand Master of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, HRH Prince Pedro of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, Count of Caserta, Head of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies, met in Madrid with the Most Reverend Archbishop Juan Antonio Aznárez Cobo, Military Ordinary for Spain. During the audience, held at the headquarters of the Military Ordinariate, the principal activities promoted by the Order internationally—and particularly in Spain—were discussed, with special focus on humanitarian, welfare, and cultural projects carried out for people affected by poverty, social exclusion, and the consequences of war.
The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight a vocation to service that belongs to the tradition and the mission of the Constantinian Order and, under the guidance of HRH the Grand Master, takes concrete form in actions in support of the most vulnerable communities. Among the initiatives presented were assistance for populations affected by conflicts, programs for children and education, support for missions, and interventions carried out in collaboration with civil, ecclesial, and military institutions.
The meeting forms part of the longstanding and consolidated relationship between the Grand Magisterium and the Military Ordinariate in Spain. In December 2022, at the Armed Forces Cathedral Church in Madrid, Archbishop Aznárez conferred upon HRH the Duke of Calabria the Grand Cross of the Cross Fidelitas, an exceptional recognition granted for special and particularly significant services rendered to the Church and the Gospel within the Military Ordinariate. The audience thus renewed a shared commitment grounded in faith, active charity, and service to peace.
The humanitarian, welfare, and cultural work of the Constantinian Order
During the meeting with the Military Ordinary for Spain, HRH the Grand Master presented to the Archbishop the various projects that the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George is carrying out both internationally and, more specifically, in Spain.
It was emphasized that such initiatives are expressions of a broad humanitarian, welfare, and cultural effort aimed at supporting the people and communities most exposed to poverty, marginalization, and the consequences of conflicts. This action is carried out through the Royal Commissions and Delegations in the countries where the Order is present, as well as in collaboration with ecclesial institutions, public bodies, and organizations devoted to solidarity.
The humanitarian work of the Constantinian Order is implemented through the collection and allocation of funds, the dispatch of aid and resources, support for educational, health, and missionary projects, and the promotion of cultural initiatives designed to raise public awareness of the main social emergencies.
Some recent projects
Among the activities carried out in recent years are the dispatch of ambulances to Ukraine (the Duke of Calabria personally delivered an ambulance to Ukraine and the Constantinian Order collaborated in the sending two ambulances to Ukraine), humanitarian aid and agricultural equipment in Lebanon, and vehicles intended to support communities in Mozambique. In Spain as well, the Order has contributed to the creation of the Pediatric Day Hospital for Oncohematology of the Fundación Aladina and to initiatives benefiting elderly people and families affected by the flooding in the Valencian Community.
In June 2026, the fourth charitable gala promoted together with the House of Alba Foundation in the gardens of the Palace of Liria in Madrid raised funds for new humanitarian projects in the Central African Republic, in Mozambique, and in Senegal, as well as for the work of the Missionaries of the Most Holy Sacrament and Mary Immaculate.
These initiatives are complemented by the project promoted in the Valencian Community to adapt spaces for children hosted at the Hogar del Niño “San Vicente de Paúl” in San Salvador, and by a scholarship program for students of the Colegio Español Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Jerusalem, which hosts young Christian and Muslim students in a context marked by war and serious economic hardship.
The relationship with the Military Ordinariate for Spain
The audience strengthened the relationship of esteem and cooperation that unites HRH the Duke of Calabria and the Military Ordinariate for Spain. As stated above, on 16 December 2022, at the Armed Forces Cathedral Church in Madrid, Archbishop Juan Antonio Aznárez Cobo conferred upon HRH the Duke of Calabria the Grand Cross of the Cross Fidelitas.
The Cross Fidelitas honors the loyalty and ministerial dedication of Military Chaplains, as well as particularly meritorious actions carried out by clergy, military personnel, civilians, and institutions serving the Church and the Gospel. The Grand Cross is reserved for exceptional cases, as recognition of a special and particularly significant service rendered to the Military Ordinariate.
In the address delivered on that occasion, HRH the Grand Master recalled the vocation to “live to serve God, our country, and the King,” and the duty to support the Church and those who devote their lives to serving the Gospel, peace, and the common good. Principles that find continuity in the Order’s humanitarian work and that constituted the foundation of the cordial discussion held in Madrid.
