On Friday 13 September 2024, the Delegation of Tuscia and Sabina of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George organized a pilgrimage to the Territorial Abbey of Subiaco, led by the Delegate, Nob Attorney Roberto Saccarello, Knight Grand Cross of Jure Sanguinis with Gold Star, for the volunteers who work support of the Delegation’s charitable activities and for their families. The participants visited, at the Monastery of Santa Scolastica – Ceselli Museum, the documentary and photographic exhibition entitled At the Roots of a Community – Subiaco in the dramatic events of the Second World War, created by the Territorial Abbey of Subiaco on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Allied bombings in May 1944 of the monastery and of Subiaco, two thirds of which were destroyed.

After a moment of contemplation in the cave of San Benedetto, the Delegate proceeded to examine the recently restored frescoes that adorn the upper and lower church of the Monastery of San Benedetto, which constitute a unique monument of beauty and spirituality.

Recently, Subiaco observed the 80th anniversary of the May of Remembrance, a very painful page in history that brings awareness to the roots of the community, the scene of bombings during the Second World War in 1944. A series of initiatives focused attention on the roots of the Subiacian community, capable of being reborn from the rubble as a community shaped by resilience and made more aware by civic sense, expressing the sense of awareness shown by the citizens who participated.

“Keeping alive what happened in the past is equivalent to returning to the roots of a community that rediscovers itself as such when it finds itself reliving the difficulties from which it recovered, demonstrating resilience and a profound civic sense,” wrote Mayor Domenico Petrini in the brochure dedicated to the anniversary.
