The Delegation of the Sacred and Military Constantinian Order of Saint George in the Principality Honors Its Prior on the Occasion of His Retirement

The Catalonia Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George was present on June 28, 2026 at the Eucharistic celebration marking the retirement of the Right Reverend Javier Orpinell Marco. The members of the Catalan Delegation wished to pay tribute to their chaplain, who has served as parish priest of the Barcelona garrison parish for the past eight years and, at the same time, as Prior of the Constantinian Order in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia.

A large representation of the members of the Order attended the moving liturgical celebration. Joining them were the region’s senior military authorities, who wished to accompany the Prior on this significant occasion. The military delegation was led by General César de Cea Quijano, Deputy Inspector General of the III SIGE; Colonel José Antonio Pastor Cantarino, Commander of the Catalonia Air Sector; and members of the Board of Cáritas Castrense of Barcelona. A large number of faithful also attended to express their profound gratitude for Father Orpinell’s pastoral dedication and devoted service over nearly a decade.

One of the highlights of the celebration took place following the reading of the official decree. The Vice Delegate of the Order presented Father Javier Orpinell with the diploma conferring upon him the rank of Grand Cross of Merit of the Constantinian Order. This prestigious distinction was awarded directly by His Royal Highness the Grand Master in response to the petition submitted by the Governing Council of the Catalan Delegation.

Following the religious ceremony, the Knights, Dames, Novices, and families of the Constantinian community honored the Prior with a fellowship luncheon. In a warm and fraternal atmosphere, those in attendance had the opportunity to speak with the honoree personally and to convey their best wishes as he begins this new chapter of his life following his retirement.
