The recent conflict, which has brought death and destruction to the Gaza Strip, has also deprived the Palestinian people of essential services, including medical assistance for women in childbirth. The Delegation of Rome and Vatican City of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George, in keeping with the mission of the Order, has launched a project called (Re)Birth in Gaza ([Italian: (Ri)Nascere a Gaza]) to ensure safe deliveries for both mothers and newborns.

To carry out this charitable initiative — aimed at helping medical personnel in Gaza to provide safe conditions for childbirth — the Delegation of Rome and Vatican City has entered into an agreement with the company SVAS Biosana for the supply, at preferential rates, of 100 medical kits for natural births, cesarean sections, and hysterectomies, as well as the materials needed for newborns immediately after delivery.

In addition, SVAS Biosana will donate 11,000 neonatal drapes made of SPUNLANCE non-woven fabric (TNT). The purchase of the materials needed to assemble the 100 kits — with an estimated value of approximately €2,500 — will be covered by fundraising donations.

The 100 kits will then be delivered to His Eminence Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Almoner of His Holiness and Prefect of the Dicastery for the Service of Charity of the Holy See, who will subsequently ensure their delivery to the Gaza Strip.

Composition of the 100 (Re)Birth in Gaza Kits

To assemble the 100 kits for the (Re)Birth in Gaza project, the following materials are required:

  • 70 surgical sets for natural births
  • 20 surgical sets (TNT + PE) for cesarean sections
  • 10 surgical sets for hysteroscopy
  • 500 Genius Baby mini diapers in 5 sizes
  • SPUNLANCE non-sterile white neonatal drapes:
    • 400 pieces, 70×80 cm, 55 g
    • 3,000 pieces, 90×120 cm, 55 g
    • 7,600 pieces, 80×60 cm, 55 g
  • 100 packs of sterile gauze, 10×10 cm, 25 layers each
  • 100 packs of non-sterile gauze, 5 m × 5 cm
  • 500 sterile umbilical clamps
