On Tuesday 4 June 2024 at 6.30 pm at the Church of the Holy Trinity-Shrine of Maria Santissima Liberatrice in Viterbo, Italy a solemn Holy Mass was celebrated in memory of the great Augustinian, the Blessed Giacomo of Viterbo. As a scholastic philosopher and political writer, he occupies a prominent place among the thinkers of his time, as is demonstrated by his numerous works and the copious citations of them by doctors of the Augustinian theological school and beyond. Elected Archbishop of Benevento, he was then transferred to the see of Naples, where, as a truly zealous pastor, he was able to earn the esteem and veneration of King Charles II of Anjou and his son Roberto, Duke of Calabria, who helped him in the construction of the new cathedral.
In accordance with tradition, at the end of the Holy Mass celebrated by Father Giuseppe Tesse, O.S.A., the knights of the Tuscia and Sabina Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, led by the Delegate, the Nob. Attorney Roberto Saccarello, Knight Grand Cross of Jure Sanguinis with Gold Star, distributed the blessed baked goods, packaged according to an ancient convent recipe, to the faithful.
The service of honor to the statue of Blessed Giacomo of Viterbo was provided by the Constantinian knights themselves.
The statue of Blessed Giacomo of Viterbo, created in Naples, was inaugurated ten years ago, on 4 June 2014, at the end of the solemn Holy Mass celebrated at the Church of the Holy Trinity, on the anniversary of his liturgical feast.
