The Marche and Romagna Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, represented by the Delegate, Count Carlo Cicconi Massi, Knight Grand Cross de Jure Sanguinis with Gold Star, supports the social and healthcare project “Oncological Prevention at Zero Kilometres,” organized by the Social Cooperative “Opere della San Matteo” ETS, an organization committed to promoting socio-health initiatives for the benefit of the community, bringing excellence in early diagnosis directly to public squares.
It is an itinerant, free, and inclusive welfare model designed to reduce the distance between citizens and healthcare services. Recognizing its high human value and concrete social usefulness, the Marche and Romagna Delegation has granted its moral patronage to the project, promoted by the Vice President of the organization, Dr. Marco Pongetti, Postulant.
The initiative was created with the aim of facilitating access to preventive care, overcoming obstacles such as long waiting lists and logistical difficulties. To this end, dedicated days are organized in the main squares of Italian municipalities, during which basic oncological screenings—particularly for breast, prostate, and skin cancers—are offered free of charge, together with specialist cardio-circulatory consultations, through mobile healthcare facilities staffed by highly specialized medical personnel.
Beyond its healthcare impact, the project stands out for its strong social dimension: it promotes a culture of prevention as a common good, accessible and rooted in the local territory. It is not limited to the simple provision of services but represents an innovative model of community-based welfare that encourages active participation.
The initiative involves local authorities, third-sector associations, and Catholic organizations, transforming prevention into a concrete expression of Christian solidarity and contributing to the creation of a network of proximity and welcome. In this way, barriers to access to care are reduced and a service of real social utility is offered, in which human value and support for others assume a central role.
The events, adequately promoted through informational channels, take place in the main squares of the selected locations, initially in Central Italy and progressively throughout the rest of the country, following a calendar that is constantly updated according to requests from local administrations and the growing success of the initiatives.
These days are not intended to be mere opportunities for free medical visits, but true moments of collective engagement, carried out in collaboration with institutions, social organizations, and the local productive fabric. The objective is to create a welcoming and empathetic environment capable of strengthening the sense of community and solidarity.
The result is a participatory and convivial experience that transforms prevention into a community event: public squares thus become places of awareness, where health is perceived as a right accessible to all.
