[Note: This report follows a previous announcement, which provides more information on the life of Saint Philip Neri and the locations associated with his life, at:
On Saturday 13 April 2024 the Delegation of Rome and Vatican City of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George carried out the scheduled visit to the heart of Rome at the church of San Gerolamo della Carità, located at the beginning of via di Monserrato, in the Regola district , not far from Piazza Farnese. In the first part of the visit, the history of the church and its main chapels was illustrated, as well as the life of Saint Philip Neri, the magnificent miracles he performed, and the Confraternity of San Girolamo della Carità. In the second part we retraced the places where Saint Philip Neri stayed for 33 years within the complex.
As we expected, during the visit, promoted and organized by the Delegation’s liaison for cultural cctivities, Attorney Fabio Costa, Knight of Merit, we were able to get to know and admire some absolute wonders of the Roman Baroque, such as the Spada chapel, one of a kind in Rome, the Antamoro chapel, created by Filippo Juvarra, and the very rich lacunar ceiling with embedded symbols of the Passion of Jesus.
The visit also offered the opportunity for deep reflection, because in addition to the visit to the room where Saint Philip Neri lived and the oratory, his life was explored in depth. In fact, he was responsible for the establishment of the Oratories as places for young people, where we dedicate ourselves to the sanctification of their souls through education, spiritual direction, preaching and the liturgical apostolate.
To understand the human and spiritual transport that Saint Philip Neri had in his apostolic activity, we report one of his reflections: “We must desire to do great things in the service of God, and not be satisfied with mediocre goodness, but have the desire (if it were possible ) to surpass even St. Peter and St. Paul into holiness and love: which, although man cannot achieve, must nevertheless be willed for, to do at least with will what we cannot with works.”
The visit was attended by Constantinian knights with relatives and friends. Attendees included HSH Prince Maurizio Ferrante Gonzaga di Vescovato, Marquis of Vodice, Knight Grand Cross of Justice, Member of the Council of the Royal Commission for Italy; the Nob. Attorney Alfonso Marini Dettina, Knight Grand Cross Jure Sanguinis with Gold Star, Canon Law Consultant of the Royal Commission for Italy; the Nob. Antonio Fioravanti Cinci Agricola, Knight Jure Sanguinis, Treasurer; Prof. Eng. Luca Mazzola, Knight of Merit, Head of Communications, Liaison for Charitable Activities; and Prof. Paolo Amori, Knight of Merit.
