At the invitation of the Diocese of Viterbo, the Delegate for the Tuscia and Sabina Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George, Nob Avv. Roberto Saccarello, Knight Grand Cross of Jure Sanguinis with Gold Star, participated on Tuesday 24 June 2025 at 5:00 pm in the 3rd Ecumenical Meeting, held at the “Luciano Osbat” room of the Palazzo dei Papi in Piazza San Lorenzo in Viterbo. The meeting opened with greetings from the Most Reverend Orazio Francesco Piazza, Bishop of Viterbo, and Father Giampaolo Notonanì, Director of the Diocesan Office for Ecumenism, who presented greetings from the new Bishop of the Anglican Center of Rome S G Antony Ball and from Antonella Sberna, Vice President of the European Parliament. Then, Father Marco Staffolani, C.P., spoke, giving a report on the first results of his research on the theme Some significant pastoral and ecumenical instances in the life of Blessed Dominic of the Mother of God. A round table discussion followed on the theme Disputes and agreements between Christians of different faiths in Viterbo – myth and reality.
Among the final observations by the participants in the meeting, the Delegate for Tuscia and Sabina, Cav. Avv. Roberto Saccarello, underlined the great interest of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George towards the Christian East, in view of the fact that, according to tradition, the first Grand Masters belonged to the Dynasty of the Angelo Commeno, Eastern Roman Emperors, from Isaac II (1155-1204) to Alexius III, and to the members of the same Family, Princes of Macedonia and Dukes of Thessaly, Drivasto and Durazzo. The Constantinian Order remained linked to the Comnenos even after the loss of the Byzantine throne in 1453 due to the Muslim invasion.
Bishop Orazio Francesco Piazza concluded the meeting, indicating his pastoral directives for the diocesan ecumenical movement.
