In a gesture of profound brotherhood and solidarity, the Western Sicily Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George on Tuesday 11 March 2025 offered dinner to needy families assisted by the Boccone del Povero Institute of Palermo. The Institute was founded in 1887 by Blessed Giacomo Cusmano, nicknamed “the doctor of the poor” because he had obtained a degree in medicine and surgery. It is an initiative that is renewed with perseverance and dedication, bringing comfort and concrete support to those living in difficulty. Great enthusiasm and gratitude were expressed by the guests of the Institute, who were able to taste delicious dishes, prepared with care and attention to the needs of the Lenten period. From the fragrant fresh basil pesto to a second course of vegetables, each dish was created in compliance with tradition and with the desire to give diners a moment of joy and refreshment.
The event, which began with the recitation of a prayer of thanksgiving, was attended by knights and postulants, who with a spirit of service actively participate in solidarity initiatives, lending their help, especially to the least fortunate.
“This service of yours is truly important, you learn a lot by serving the least among us, especially when you wait at tables: a true school of life. Good journey,” declared the Delegate, Nob. Prof. Salvatore Bordonali, Knight Grand Cross of Justice, gathering the postulants, a fundamental resource for the Order, underlining the human and formative value of this experience.
Coordinating the activities in the kitchen was Maestro Totò, a long-time volunteer of the Institute, who for decades has dedicated his time and passion to preparing meals for those most in need. His commitment, combined with the generosity of all the participants, made this day another concrete testimony of attention to the least among us and to the beauty of listening, because often a smile is enough to change someone’s day for the better.
The Delegate added: ”With this initiative, the Delegation of Western Sicily of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George confirms its commitment to promoting Christian values and active solidarity, continuing to be a point of reference for those in difficulty and testifying with gestures to the strength of brotherhood.”
Professor Bordonali concluded: ”In the humanitarian field, the main actions of the Constantinian Order focus on specific interventions in response to concrete events, according to the operational capabilities of the Delegations or the Royal Commission for Italy. The militant dimension, historically associated with the Order, adapted to the realities of the times, focuses first and foremost on solidarity action at the local level. The members of the Order, under the impetus of the Grand Magisterium and the guidance of the Royal Commission for Italy and the Delegations, actively participate in diocesan and parish socio-charitable actions in their respective territorial areas, especially in the churches where the canonical seats of the Order are located.”
The Secretary General of the Delegation, Dr. Salvatore Glorioso, Knight of Jure Sanguinis, in thanking those who participated, reiterated “the importance of the organized turnover to allow everyone, especially the postulants but also the knights, to take part in this enriching experience, capable of making them grow internally and transmitting profound meanings about life and sharing.”
