A meeting of the Delegation of the Marche and Romagna of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George to prepare for Easter will take place on Saturday 16 March 2024 in Fano in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, in the presence of the Archbishop Emeritus of Loreto and Apostolic Nuncio, the Most Reverend Giovanni Tonucci, Constantinian Chaplain Grand Cross of Merit.
The meeting, aimed at sharing the values of the Constantinian Order and strengthening confraternal bonds, will be akin to a spiritual retreat and will be divided into the following program:
09.30 am: meeting at the ancient church of Santa Maria del Suffragio in via Martino da Fano, adjacent to piazza Cleofilo.
10.00 am: procession to the Romanesque church of San Pietro in Episcopio, where Archbishop Giovanni Tonucci will offer meditative ideas for reflection and preparation for Easter.
11.15 am: Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Giovanni Tonucci, with Monsignor Umberto Gasparini, Constantinian Chaplain of Merit, as concelebrant
Around 12.30 pm: lunch in the historic Palazzo dei Conti Bracci.
3.30 pm: Visit to the Civic Museum of the Malatestiano Palace in Fano.
The small church of San Pietro in Episcopio is located in the alley of via Rinalducci, in the historic center of Fano.
The oldest document relating to the church dates back to the 12th century. Recently the building has been dated to the period between the mid-6th and 10th centuries.
The exterior of the building consists of a facing of sandstone ashlars; the interior, which has been restored several times, has a new trussed ceiling and a terracotta floor created on the model of the sixteenth-century fragments placed on the sides of the entrance. Next to the side portal, the steps that led to the medieval floor level are visible.
On the altar the wooden crucifix is a copy of a work by the sculptor Alessandro Algardi.
