On Sunday 15 December 2024, the Delegation of Naples and Campania of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George carried out the usual bimonthly service at the Fraternal Canteen “Locanda San Vincenzo de’ Paoli” of the diocesan Caritas of Nola. This service, which involves the Constantinian knights together with the volunteers of the college parish, six volunteers who serve in the kitchen and two volunteers who take care of the packaging of the meals, is a significant moment of solidarity and is part of a series of initiatives that the Delegation of Naples and Campania undertakes to make a small contribution to those needy and less fortunate. The Fraternal Canteen not only physically feeds the most needy, but plays a crucial role in strengthening the sense of community and local charity, supporting those in difficulty with a concrete gesture of Christian love.
The day of service begins every day at 8 am with the preparation of meals, continuing with the distribution of take-away lunches from noon on. These are prepared in bags with family containers sterilized by volunteers before reuse, thus ensuring maximum hygiene and food safety. It then continues with table service from approximately 12.30pm to 1.30pm, with the distribution of hot meals in disposable containers, crockery and trays, and ends with the cleaning of the rooms, tables, bathrooms, etc. The volunteers thus try to guarantee high standards of hygiene and food safety, underlining the importance of these values in charity. On weekdays, the shower service for men and women is also active, with the change of underwear and clothing.
Among those helping out were Nicola Annunziata and Paolo Carbone, Constantinian Knights of Office, supported by Prof. Antonio De Stefano, Knight of Merit with Silver Star, Interim Communications Director of the Delegation, and by Dr. Giuseppe Russo, Knight of Merit. The confrères carried out their commitment with the usual spirit of dedication and service towards the most needy, remaining faithful to the inspiring principles of the Order, summarized in the motto Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum, defense of the faith and service to the poor and the suffering, which it also manifests through volunteer works in welfare, health and social structures of Constantinian Knights, Ladies and Postulants. The next day of service is scheduled for January 19, 2025.
