The newly established Vibo Valentia Section of the Calabrian Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George demonstrated its concern for the less fortunate by donating a batch of basic food items, composed of rice, tomato pulp and legumes (beans, chickpeas and lentils), sunflower seed oil and olive oil to the Parish of Maria Santissima del Rosario of Pompeii in Vibo Marina.
Founded in the 1930s, it is the largest parish in the Diocese of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea and is located in an area that was highly industrialized in the past and has seen cyclical industrial and economic crises in recent decades, leaving the territory with unemployment and consequent emigration.
Since last year, the parish has been led by the parish priest Monsignor Vincenzo Varone, who immediately entered into the hearts of the coastal community for compassion, service to others and closeness to the least among us, after the tragic death of the prior parish priest, Monsignor Saverio Di Bella, who left behind a great legacy of pastoral work and witness of Faith. Monsignor Varone expressed heartfelt words of thanks and with great interest he learned about the history and purposes of the Constantinian Order.
The Vibo Valentia Section was recently established within the Delegation of Calabria, by decree of the President of the Royal Commission for Italy, H.E. Prince Flavio Borghese of the Princes of Sulmona and Montecompatri, Knight Grand Cross of Justice, on 23 April 2024, the Feast of Saint George the Martyr, Patron Saint of the Constantinian Order and Patron of Reggio Calabria, a decision approved and strongly supported by the Grand Master, HRH Prince Pedro of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duke of Calabria, Count of Caserta, Head of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies. The idea was then developed with great tenacity by the Lieutenant for Peninsular Southern Italy, H.E. the Marquis Don Pierluigi Sanfelice di Bagnoli, Knight Grand Cross of Justice, interim Delegate of Calabria.
Those who participated in the delivery of the batch of basic necessities, under the guidance of the liaison for Vibo Valentia, Nob. Dr. Concetta Lombardi Satriani, included the Secretary General, Dr. Domenico d’Auria, Knight of Merit; the Communications Director and Cultural Activities Officer, Dr. Roberto M. Naso Naccari Carlizzi, Knight of Merit; Maurizio Capano, Knight of Office; and Dr. Francesco Andreacchi, postulant.
The interim Delegate, H.E. the Marquis Pierluigi Sanfelice di Bagnoli, expressed warm words of appreciation for the charity initiative, whose implementation he coordinated from Naples: “Our presence in the territory must be a constant example of dedication to the least among us. Every place in Calabria can and will always be able to count on our Knights, Dames and Postulants who, to the greater honor and glory of the Holy Cross, whose insignia we carry, will always be on the front line so that no one feels excluded or abandoned in a society whose often negative superficial and futile values can undermine the essence and mission of being Christian and Catholic.”
